What number must be subtracted frim the numerator and added to the denominator of 17/22. To give a rational number equal to 5/8 ?​

Let numerator number be x and denominator number be y

17-x/22+y = 5/8

136-8x = 110 + 5y

8x + 5y = 26 ---------- (1)

x+y = 1 -----------(2)

So x = 1-y

Substituting in (1)

8 - 8y + 5y = 26

8 - 3y = 26

-3y = 18

So y = -6

Substituting y in (1)

x-6 = 1

So x = 7

So x = 7

And y = -6
