Given; ratio of 4:9

To Find; what number must be subtracted from each term of a ratio 4:9 so that it may become equal to 9:4

Solution; Let the number that must be subtracted be x

4-x/9-x=9/4

4(4-x)=9(9-x)

16-4x=81-9x

5x=65

x=13

Hence the number that should be subtracted is 13
