Rutherford does experiment on alpha particle scattering on thin gold foil(0.01mm).
Rutherford bombarded alpha particle on thin gold foil and observations made by him are as follows:-
1.most of the alpha particle travels in a straight line which indicates that most part of the atom is empty
2.Some particles deflected by smaller angles which indicates that there is positively charged particle at the centre of atom.
3.One alpha particle out of 10,000 returns back to its original path which indicates that the central particle is very heavy and dense or small in size.
