Ionic bond formed by sharing of electrons therefore metals (which are electropositive) react with non-metal (which are electronegative) to form ionic compound contain ionic bond.

Ionic bonding is a type of bonding that involves the attraction between oppositely charged ions, and is the primary interaction that occurs in an atom. Ions are atoms that has recieved and lost one or more electrons to form anions and cations.  This transfer of electrons is known as electrovalence. The cation is a metal ion and the anion is a nonmetal ion.
