Animal rearing of livestock amounts to 26.5% of the total GDP of agriculture in India.
This number is high due to the reason that India is the world's highest livestock owner and stands amongst the top ten countries in animal rearing in buffaloes, sheep, duck, camel, goats, etc.
In India, two-thirds of the total rural population is dependent on livestock. And about 8.8% of the total population in India is dependent on livestock for their livelihood.
