what possibly could have happened if mRNA would have been stable ?

mRNA initiates protein synthesis by carrying coded information from the DNA to the site of protein synthesis. So if there was no mRNA then cells will not be able to synthesis protein.

Brian7: mRNAs, rapid decay serves(instability) to continuously adjust the message population to the needs of the cell for specific proteins. Though stability is sometimes maintain in higher animals. Instability of mrna is a adaptive measure.
