International diplomacy emerged as a result of the Second World War. The global desire for world peace and conflict resolution led to the establishment of the United Nations, to manage the international environment. The UN was formed as an international forum to resolve disputes between different countries . The UN took an interest in international diplomacy from its onset and sought to mediate various conflicts and problems including the Indonesian National Revolution, the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Korean War, the Rwandan crisis, and more recently the Syrian and Libyan Civil Wars and the current Mediterranean refuge crisis stemming from those conflicts.
