Chromosomes are protected by telomeres.

Explanation:

A telomere is a repetitive sequence of nucleotides found at the tale end of each chromosome. During DNA replication chromosomes are often cut short. The enzymes used during DNA replication have trouble replicating all the way to the end. Adding a repetitive sequence of nucleotides creates a buffer so that no essential parts of the chromosome are accidentally cut short.
