Lord Curzon's intention was to divide Bengalis, not Hindus from Muslims. The Western districts formed the other province with Orissa and Bihar. The union of western Bengal with Orissa and Bihar reduced the speakers of the Bengali language to a minority.

In 1905 British govt (government) divided Bengal into East & West. The official expansion of this partition is only for administrative purpose, But the secret idea behind this is to divide and rule policy.

The protest against this partition is called ‘Swedeshi movement’ (swadeshi=Native),t means to boycott the British products,institutions, functions of British & only use swadeshi(native) products.

The major institutions started as a part of this movement:-

Swedeshi Navigation Company
