Amelia was sure that her father had died that she did not feel the requirement to consult a doctor. Moreover, Dr. Pingle who was the designated doctor for Abel was unavailable on the particular day. Amelia thought that it is 'professional courtesy' that the doctor who attended Abel when he was alive should attend him when he is dead. Thus, the unavailability of Dr. Pingle prompted Amelia to not to take the trouble of finding another doctor.
