Well there is no fixed evidence and exact data of which was really first but the Sumerian, Egyptian and Indus Valley Civilizations were three major, most ancient civilizations that existed around same period. One is Mayan Civilization but not so widely spread and also came after these three above. Fourth major ancient civilization was Yellow River (Chinese) Civilization but came pretty much later after first three.Transformation of the society from the state of nature to organised polity laid the foundation for the process of civilisation.
