The infiltration of water is prevented because:

Explanation:

  • Desert soil is also called sandy soil.
  • It is porous and has a high concentration of of silica, sodium and calcium.
  • It has low water-holding capacity.
  • As silica have low affinity for water, they can unable to bind to water molecules by adhesive binding.
  • This is the reason it is unable to retain water in association with it.
  • This is also the reason why the deserts are dry.
