Raja Rammohan Roy played a very important role in awakening modern India. First of all, he tried a lot to uplift the status of women in the society.
He founded the Brahmo Samaj in 1828. He felt attraction towards Western education and establishes many schools and colleges. He also tried to uplift the lower castes.
With the joint effort of him and William Bentinck, he stopped the Sati system. The Orthodox Hindus thought it to be a curse to their religion....
Raja Rammohan Roy believed in monotheism, I.e., worship of only ONE God.
He believed that every religion had some important values to teach.......
