Women played an important role throughout the period of the revolution bringing key changes in the social and political realms of France.

*The women in the third estate had faced hardships, working to earn a living often in difficult conditions and at lower wages than men.In order to raise their protest, several political clubs and newspapers were started across the country.
*Along with the men, women played a key part in Jacobin movement as well as taking part in active rebellions like the storming of Bastilles.
*Demands that women groups made ranged from right to vote ,holding political office, receiving equality in working conditions and equal wages.
*Women raised voice against the new constitution of 1791 that treated them as passive citizens as well as against the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen.
*Acting on the behest of women clubs, the revolutionary government introduced some laws to improve their conditions eg. setting up of schools, making divorce legal and setting training centers for women. But during Reign of Terror, women clubs were closed down and several leaders were executed.

French revolution was one of the first where women stood firmly for their rights and continued struggle despite oppression. The protests were an inspiration for future movements like suffragate and right to vote, which was finally bestowed to them in 1946.
