take football for example, when you kick the ball, it stops after a while due to friction or else it would go on forever according to Newton's first law of inertia you kick with a force F, the grass/ground applies frictional force because of normal force produced by the weight of the ball acting on the ground's surface. this frictional force constantly slows the ball eventually causing it to stop

YatharthGupta: please elaborate it
WrathRaiser: extended the answer
YatharthGupta: thanks
WrathRaiser: no prob
