Osmosis:-
A spontaneous movements of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane is called Osmosis.
Or we can say that the solvent or water passes through a semi-permeable membrane from a high area of its free energy to a low area of its free energy.
- A selectively permiable membrane doesn't allow ions to pass but unrestricted passage of water.
- Osmosis takes place due to the free energy of the solvent molecule in double regions.
Importance of osmosis:-
- Osmosis plays an important role in the cells of both the plants and animals.
- It helps in the distribution of nutrients and the extraction of waste products.
