From one cocoon, a single thread of continuous raw silk can be obtained with its length varying from 300 to 900 meters which is equal to 1000 to 3000 feet.
The fibers of such length, hence drawn, are about 10 micrometres in diameter which is about 1/2500th of an inch.
Such fine fibers are very lustrous and shiny and produce high quality silk garments when processed and woven.
