Given - Number and result

Find - Value

Solution - Let the number to be added for desired result he x.

Representing the given information in mathematical equation form -

 -  \frac{5}{4}  +  x =  - 1

Shifting the number from Left Hand Side to Right Hand Side

x =  - 1 +  \frac{5}{4}

Taking LCM, we get 4. So, solving the equation for the value of x.

x =  \frac{( - 1 \times 4) + 5}{4}

x =   \frac{ - 4 + 5}{4}

x =  \frac{ 1}{4}

Performing division

x =  0.25

So, addition of 0.25 or 1/4 will give the desired result.
