let the number be x

one number = 5/9

to get number = 2/3

added number = 3x

3 * 5/9 + x= 2/3

15 /9 + x = 2/3

x = 2 /3 - 15 /9

x = 6 /9 -15 /9

x = -9/9

x = -1

number added = -1

Answer:

-1

Step-by-step explanation:

Assumption: Let the no. to be added be x.

According to the question,

3×5/9 + x = 2/3

Or, 5/3 + x = 2/3

Or, x = 2/3 - 5/3

Or, x = (2 - 5)/3

Or, x = -3/3

Or, x = -1

Therefore, the number to be added to thrice of the rational number 5/3 to make it 2/3 is -1.
