ANSWER = -5 / 28

let the number be x

4/7 - x = 3/4

x = 4/7 -3/4

= 16 - 21 / 28

= -5 /28

Answer :-

  • -5/28 should be subtracted from 4/7 to get 3/4.

To find :-

  • The number which should be subtracted from 4/7 to get 3/4.

Solution :-

  • Let the required number be "x".

It has been given that :-

  • When "x" is subtracted from 4/7, the result is 3/4.

-------------------------------------------

Therefore,

 \longmapsto  \sf\dfrac{4}{7}  - x =  \dfrac{3}{4}

  \longmapsto\sf\dfrac{4}{7} =  \dfrac{3}{4}  + x

 \longmapsto\sf \dfrac{4}{7}  -  \dfrac{3}{4}  = x

  \longmapsto\sf\dfrac{4 \times 4 - 3 \times 7}{28}  = x

 \longmapsto\sf \dfrac{16 - 21}{28}  = x

 \longmapsto \underline{\boxed{ \sf \dfrac{ - 5}{ \: 28}  = x}}

  • Hence, the required number is -5/28.

  • To check our answer, lets subtract -5/28 from 4/7 and see whether we get 3/4.

 \longmapsto \sf \dfrac{4}{7}  -  \dfrac{ - 5}{ \: 28}

 \sf\longmapsto  \dfrac{4 \times 4 - ( - 5) \times 1}{28}

 \longmapsto \sf  \dfrac{16 - ( - 5)}{28}

  \sf \longmapsto  \dfrac{21}{28}

 \longmapsto \sf \dfrac{3}{4}

  • We get 3/4 on subtracting -5/28 from 4/7.

Hence verified!
