If displacement is parallel to the direction of force, then θ = 0°, and hence W = F.s.cos 0° = F .s. 1 = F .s

In such a case work done is said to be maximum.

W = F.s cos θ
Work done will be maximum when cos θ = 1 that is 0 degree .
