What should be the value of F so that block of mass 1 kg remains in equilibrium. The co-efficient of friction between 1 kg and 4 kg block is 0.5 and except it all surfaces are smooth :-

To find,

The value of applied force (F)

Calculation,

We know if there is no friction between a 1 Kg block and a 4 Kg block then the weight of the block will make the 1 Kg block fall down.

But as there is friction between 1 Kg and 4 Kg blocks the falling down of 1 Kg block will be balanced.

i.e. Weight of the block = frictional force between the blocks

mg =  μF

⇒ 1(10) = 0.5(F)

⇒ F = 20 N

Therefore, the value of F so that block of mass 1 kg remains in equilibrium is 20 N.
