Let the number be x
-2/3-x=-1/6
x=-2/3+1/6
x=(-4+1)/6
x=-3/6
x=-1/2
-2/3-x=-1/6
x=-2/3+1/6
x=(-4+1)/6
x=-3/6
x=-1/2

Let the no. to be subtracted be x
- 2/3 - x = -1/6
L.C.M = 3
-2/3 - 3x/ 3 = -1/6
on cross multiplying we get
(-2 - 3x) ( 6) = 3 × - 1
-12 - 18x = -3
-18x = -3 + 12
-18x = 9
x = 9/-18
x = -1/2
So -1/2 is the no. which must be subtracted from -2/3 to get -1/6.
Hope it helps.
