Sign convention for reflection by spherical mirror.

  1. The object must always be placed on the left side of the mirror.
  2. All distances parallel to the principal axis is measured considering the pole of the mirror as the origin.
  3. The distance measured to the right of origin are considered as positive whereas as left of the origin are negative.
  4. The distance measured perpendicular to and above the principal axis are given a positive sign.
  5. The distance measured perpendicular to and below the principal axis are given a negative sign.
