The poet makes speculations about the possible theme and subject matter of the song "The solitary reaper" that it might be about the death or illness of a loved one or about a disaster or calamity in the past,or that it may be about everyday,routine events or about an important historical event that happened long ago.He enjoys the song even though he does not know the particular Scottish dialect in which the solitary reaper was singing the song.The melody,tune and the melancholy sound of the song touched the poet's heart and the song affected  him deeply.Also the reaper had a beautiful voice.He hummed the song evn long after it was no more heard.
