About 70% of the total mass of the sun is made of hydrogen, 28% of helium gas and 2% of heavier elements like carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, e.t.c. Diameter of the sun is 1,384,000 km or $1.4 \times 10^{6} \ km$ (approx). This diameter is 109 times more than the diameter of earth. Volume of the sun is 1,300,000 times the size of the earth. Mass of the sun is approximately $2 \times 10^{30} \ kg$ which is $3.3 \times 10^{5}$ times heavier than the earth. The average density of the sun is $1.4 \ gm/cm^{3}$.
