Plans to form
the Indian Constitution were made several decades before India won its freedom
from the British rule in 1947.
The Constituent
Assembly had various meetings with the public for close to three years. There
were a lot of discussions and debates regarding this in the Assembly. After
this, all the assembly members signed the document pertaining to the formation
of the Indian Constitution. There were two copies of the document – one in
Hindi and one in English. Both copies were signed by all the 308 members.

provinces and states were allotted seats in proportion to their population.

province, the seats were divided into Muslim, Sikh and general communities based
on the population in each category.
# Each member in
the Assembly could elect their own representatives using proportional
