What strange things did professor Gaitonde face as he emerged from the station in Bombay

As Professor Gaitonde came out of the Bombay VT station, he found that he was facing a large aristocratic looking building. It was quite an imposing building with a plaque in front which stated that it was the ‘East India House – Head Quarters of East India Company’.
This situation put him in a state of shock and dilemma. His recollection was that, East India Company had wound up its operations in India, in 1857 and here it was, their headquarters!
