These are types of chemical substances that is secreted by the endocrine glands.

Hormones can have different types of chemical structures that can be of three distinct classes: steroids, amino acid/protein derivatives like peptides, proteins and amines and the eicosanoids.

All glands in the body that secrete hormones make up the endocrine signaling system.

The term itself is sometimes meant to show chemicals that are produced by cells and which affect the same cell or neighbouring cells.
