In our state West Bengal, the local Panchayet Samitis take up various steps to improve the local environment as follows-

• The environment can be improved with trees. The more green, the more the healthy an environment be. So the Panchayet Samitis are working on tree plantation programmes, for which they buy saplings from contractors. Later they make a scheme, under which the local area people work as groups to plant those saplings and take care of them till they become a tree.
• A few years back, the roads were very dirty due to many reasons. But after the Government's Clean India Mission, the local Panchayets have reduced the sanitary problems in rural areas. However they also took schemes, under which local people worked to prevent from exploitations.
• There was a severe water problem in localities. Under governmental scemes, Panchayet Samitis have planted watersheds, from which water is supplied to homes.
• To conserve water efficiently, Panchayet Samitis have given local people opportunities to construct small tanks.
