Answer:

Simon looked back and saw that the man was no longer leaning against the shrine, but was moving as if looking towards him.

Simon felt more frightened than before and thought ' shall I go back to him, or shall I go on? If I go near him something dreadful may happen. who knows who the fellow is? He has not come here for any good.

If I go near him he may jump up and throttle me and there is no way to escape or if not, he would be still a burden on my hands. What could I do with a naked man? I could not give him my last clothes.

Simon stopped suddenly on the road. said to himself "the man may be dying of want and you slip past afraid.

Are you afraid of robbers? Ah, Simon shame on you!" So he turned back and went up to the man.

Answer:

When Simon saw the stranger for the first time multiple thoughts crossed his mind. He was with his wife at that time and could see how annoyed she was. He did not pay much attention to her annoyance and instead  he invited the stranger over for dinner. He grabbed his arm and said, "why don't you sit down friend and let us have some supper".

Explanation:

This is a part of the story of, "What Men Live By, and other stories", by Leo Tolstoy.
