An ionic bond is a type of chemical bond formed through an electrostatic attraction between two oppositely charged ions. Ionic bonds are formed between a cation, which is usually a metal, and an anion, which is usually a nonmetal. A covalent bond involves a pair of electrons being shared between atoms

ionic bond
it is bcz metals are usually electropositive so electronegativity is very less and non metals are electro negative so their electronegativity is more
so difference between their electronegativity will be greater than 1.7
and if the electronegativity difference between two bonding atoms is greater than 1.7
the bond formed is ionic
hope this helps u
