Earth receive different row is radiations from the sun. Some of it in the form of infrared radiations gets reflected back but the carbon dioxide present in the earth trap these infrared radiations and prevent them from reflecting. These are very hot and increase the temperature of earth. The warming of temperature in this way is called green house effect.

So infrared radiations are caught by green house gases
