Radicals (often referred to as free radicals) are atoms, molecules, or ions with unpaired electrons.

Free radicals may have positive, negative, or zero charge.

There is a way to denote the radical. It is done by simply putting a dot (which represent unpaired energetic electron) on the symbol of an element. For e.g. Cl., NO., etc.

SO42- is neither a radical or a molecule, it is an anion.
