The French Revolution was a revolution in France from 1789 to 1799 that led to a fullstop for monarchy. King Louis XVI was executed in 1793. The revolution ended when Napoleon Bonaparte took power in November 1799.

ECONOMIC CAUSE OF FRENCH REVOLUTION:

* Several years war had drained the financial resources of France.

* Also It adds the cost of maintaining the immense palace of Versailles.

* France helped American colonies to gain their independence from their enemy.

* This war had added more than a billion livres into debt.

*Livres- The unit of currency in France.

* This had already risen to 2 billion livres.

* Lenders who have loan to French had increased the interest to 10% on loans.

* Because of this the French government was forced to spend an increasing percentage of its budget on interest payments.

* To maintain the cost of an army, the court, running government offices and universities(regular expenses) the french government was forced to increase the taxes.

* French society was divided into 3 estates and the 3rd estates of people like peasants, artisans, small peasants, landless labour and servants, big businessmen, merchants, court officials, lawyers are only forced to pay the taxes.
