Answer -
Due to pressure from landed groups, the government introduced the Corn Laws which restricted the import of corn. However, the corn Laws were finally abolished due to pressure from industrialists and urban dwellers, who argued against the rising high food prices.
The abolition of Corn Laws resulted in cheap imported food entering the British markets. British agriculture, unable to compete with cheap imports, left large tracts of land uncultivated. This left thousands unemployed. This unemployed rural population flocked into the cities or migrated overseas.
