The French directory was a ruling body which ruled France from 1795 till it was overthrown in 1795.
It was a five member committee which presided over the day to day ruling of the country.
The committee was well known for the annexing of surrounding countries while at the same time relaxing the strict and barbaric practises of the Jacobian rule.
