Hao Hoa movement was a religious movement by Buddhist Vietnamese that began in the year 1939 and gained great popularity in the Mekong delta region. The movement was drawn on religious ideas popular in anti-French uprisings of the nineteenth century.
The founder of Hao Hoa movement was Huynh Phu So.His criticism against useless expenditure had a wide appeal. He opposed the sale of child brides, gambling and the use of alcohol and opium. This religious movement inspired the peasants to go against the colonial rule.
