Khushwant Singh and and his grandmother where intimate friends . ln the village they lived together .the grandmother used to help him is a lot in getting ready and went to school with him.on the way they used to feed but dogs the stale chapaties. the grandmother was a religious lady. She used to read the holy scriptures in the temple and return with her grandson.

Her daily routine starts from when she used to get up early in the morning and prepared breakfast for the author , getting her grandson ready for the school and then accompanying him to the Village school . On the way to the school she would feed chapati to stray dogs. She would then go to the adjoining temple to offer her prayers and read the scriptures. When they both had finished, they return to home . she used to help author in studies also.
