British refused to accept Nana Saheb, the adopted son of Baji Rao II as the ruler of the Marathas.

Explanation:

Nana saheb was an Indian Peshwa. He was adopted by exiled Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao II. The Governor General of British East India company, Lord Dalhousie declined to give the pension of his father as he was the adopted son of Baji Rao. In order to re instate the pension of his father he sent his Muslim advisor to London and also he requested to fulfill his petition. But he failed to get the pension. So he joined in the revolt of 1857.This is the main grievance of Nana Saheb against British.
