What was professor Gaitonde experience in Azad Maidan? Did he have any effect on his life?
Answers
Professor Gaitonde is a character in the lesson "The Adventure" by Jayant Narlikar. The lesson is based on Catastrophe Theory.
Professor Gaitonde is a history professor and is on his way to give a lecture. Due to a car crash, he lands in a parallel world, different from his real world.
Experience at Azad Maiden
He reaches the place Azad Maiden and finds that a lecture is going on without the chairman. He objects to this, for which the audience react by throwing tomatoes and eggs. He resists the insult and continues to argue, but the angry crowd, carry him and throw him out.
Effect on his life
As a result of his experience at Azad Maiden, the professor decides never to give, another lecture, in his lifetime.
The Azad Midan experience occurred in another time and space. In the other world experience, Professor Gaitonde went to Azad Maidan after taking a frugal meal at a guest house. He found a lecture going on; on the stage he noticed the presidential chair unoccupied. There he had an argument with the audience regarding the unchaired lecture, which turned out to be violent. The audience got on the stage and threw Professor Gaitonde off the stage.
The throw had an effect on the professor as it was after this experience he came out of the other world experience. He had been found unconscious in Azad Maidan.
