1. In 1916 he traveled to Champaran in Bihar to inspire
the peasants to struggle against the oppressive plantation system.
ii. Then in 1917, he organized a satyagraha to support the peasants of the Kheda
district of Gujarat. Affected by crop failure and a plague epidemic, the peasants of
Kheda could not pay the revenue, and were demanding that revenue collection be relaxed.
iii. In 1918, Mahatma Gandhi went to Ahmedabad to organize a satyagraha movement amongst cotton mill workers.
The term Satyagraha was coined by M.K. Gandhi in South Africa to illustrate a passive resistance. Though the word was similar to passive resistance the scope of the term was not limited to a little sphere. The given are the three Satyagraha movements launched by M.K. Gandhi:
1. Champaran Satyagraha: Gandhi organized the Champaran Satyagraha in Bihar in 1916. To inspire the peasants to protest against the harsh plantation practice was the main objective of this Satyagraha.
2. Kheda Satyagraha: launched in the year 1917, the Kheda Satyagraha was support for the peasants of Gujarat (particularly of the Kheda district); who could not pay the taxes to the British government due to crop failure.
3. Ahmadabad Satyagraha: this Satyagraha was launched in 1918 in protest to the British cruelties by the workers of the cotton mill.
