hi everyone this is your answer. The "undeserved reward" is actually revolve around the narrator and the a district officer. The district officer initially invites the narrator himself as the narrator writes about some good qualities within him. At the start the narrator looks to reject the invitation but later on goes to the place of district officer who was the influential person of the area. They meet each other and become friends their friendship news spread in the area and as the people start approaching the narrator to meet the officer or to reach to him But narrator always turns the down.
Once one of old friend of narrator "Baldev"  approaches him and remind him that they know each other. Then he ask the narrator to represent a case about his son wrong implications before the district officer . This time he did  not reject him but later on he forget about it. Then after few days the person came with his son and says that his son released . So he  express his gratitude and also present some gift to the narrator for his work. The narrator in the last feel sorry that he did not do nothing and can't even able to tell to his friend about it.
