Anglicists thought that European education would improve Indian condition and bring reforms so English must be the medium of instruction. whereas, from orientalists' view the traditional Indian education was rich with culture and local literature that will keep them well rooted to their own society.

This all ended with the English Education Act of 1835 which was a legislative act introduced bu Lord William Bentinck to to reallocate funds the East India Company was required by the British Parliament to spend on education and literature in India.
