The basic idea behind decentralisation of government is to take democracy at grass root level via municiple bodies and Pachayat raj system.
In IndiaThe provisons were made more stringent through 73nd and 74th amendment to the constitution
Some points can be noted as given below:
1. Decentralisation gives people at local level chance to participate in decision-making process.
2. To solve different local problems and issues t local level.
3. The local problems and concerns are very better known to local people
3. Local developmental issues can be well addressed by local people themselves.
4. People also get chance to know the political process and thus get the political education.
5. Decentralisation is the best way to make people realise their rights, duties and responsibiliyy to different institutions.
We can that Decentralisation also reduces much burden from Central and state governments to focus on much larger state and national issues.
