What was the cause of Franco German rivalry?

its was because of chief minister of Prussia Bismarck's blood and steel policy which aimed at expansion of Prussia and thus Prussia attacked at its neighboring territories France was one of them

France was defeated by Germany in 1870-71 and consequently her two important provinces of Alsace and Lorraine were taken away from her. Both of these were famous for iron deposits and hence France could not prosper without them. Germany was not ready to return them at any cost. This generated a spirit of revenge among the French people...Hope it helps u J
