they are many disadvantages of indigo cultivation, I shall try me best to cover them all in this answer:-

1). The indigo planters persuaded the peasants to plant indigo instead of food crop. They provided loans, called (daton), at very high interest rate. oncea farmer took such loans, he remaines in debt for his whole life.

2) The Prices paid by the planters was meagre 2.5% of the market price. The farmers could make no profit by growing indigo.

3) The farmers were totally unprotected from the indigo planters, who restored to mortgages or destruction of the property if they were unwilling to obey them.
