Recently I read a book called ’An Era Of Darkness’ which is authored by Dr.Shashi Tharoor. He focused on some astonising facts and figures of how British treated India for 200 years with so much of cruelty.
There are some fact in the books which I like to share with you.
At the beginning of 18th century india's share of the world economy was 23 %,after departure of Bretain from India it had dropped to 3%.In 1930 ,the American historian Will Durant wrote that Britain's greatest crime in all history.Almost 35 millionpeople died because of acts of commission and ommision by the British. The British extracted from India £18,000,000 each year.Taxation by the company min of 50 % of income. And that revenue's flowed into London's treasury. There are many cases of curroption and cupidity like Robert Clive victor of plassay in 1757 on his first returns to England from India he took 23 million pound in today's money. They think that ‘India is sure path to prosperity'.Deindustrialization was deliberate British policy. There are many factors which shows that India was governed for the benefit of Bretain.Thank you.
