At first, the English East India Company removed the name of the Mughal ruler from the coins and minted coins on the name of the company.  Dalhousie the then Governor -General in the year 1849, announced that the family of the ruler after the death of Zafar would be moved out of the Red Fort. Governor-General “Canning in 1856, concluded that Zafar would be the last emperor of the Mughal empire, and following his death, his descendants will be known as princes.
