Global impact of the Russian revolution:
- Russia was the first country to establish a communist state. Because of it, communist parties were formed in many other countries.
- The Bolsheviks (a Social-Democratic Workers' Party) encouraged many colonial peoples to follow their experiment.
- Many non-Russians from outside the USSR took part in the Conference of the Peoples (1920) and the Bolshevik-founded Comitern. Some also received education in the Communist University of the Workers of the East.
- Socialism became popular by the time of the Second World War. By the end of the 20th century, the international reputation of the USSR as a socialist country had gone downhill. But in many other countries the ideas of socialism were rethought of in a number of ways.
